Pay Attention to the Road

Why is it so many people are clueless while driving? DON'T TALK ON THE CELL PHONE if you can't concentrate on driving at the same time.

When you're sitting in the left lane doing 15mph below the speed limit because you're focused on your precious phone conversation, you're causing more traffic issues behind you. Traffic delays have a ripple affect. One person behind you has to slow down because you're going to slow, then five people behind you, then one of them cuts somebody off in the middle lane, causing that lane to slow down. Then somebody behind them in the middle lane cuts to the left or right lane, possibly slowing that lane down.

And all of it is usually caused by somebody doing something stupid in front.

Pay attention. Have some courtesy for others. Don't be afraid. If you're afraid, you shouldn't be on the road. It's not your right, it's your privilege.

Losing Temptations

So, shouldn't it be easy to avoid temptation? What if you love games? I love fantasy football, board games, etc. I added Facebook a few months ago and there are a few addictive games there. If I simply dropped fantasy sports and Facebook, I'd be a much more productive person. Simple, eh? I wish.

The Left Lane

Stay out of it. It's supposed be for passing slower vehicles. I understand if you need to make a left turn or take a left exit soon (not in five miles). Besides that, if you're not passing somebody, move over.

The Elevator

I'm always about trying not to inconvenience others, if at all possible. That will probably be the source of many of my blogs. What would I have done?

Now, this is very minute when I think about it, but it still made me think. I was getting on the elevator to come to the fifth floor. One car was open in the lobby and about ten people were getting on. Another car became available. Even though the first one wasn't full, myself and one other person walked over and got on the other car.

I got on the car because I was going to the fifth floor. As such, with fewer people there was less of a chance of hitting the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors on the way up. I assumed the other person was thinking the same thing. WRONG. They got off on the second floor.

I thought, why wouldn't they just ride with the bigger group - somebody from the group was bound to be getting off on the second floor. I wasn't mad or anything, it just didn't make sense. Who knows? Maybe they were just trying to inconvenience fewer people, in my case, one other person. If they had been the only person getting off on the 2nd floor on the other elevator, they would have been inconveniencing 9 others as opposed to one.

Intro

So, I thought I'd use this forum to talk about a few different observations about everyday occurrences. These will deal with everyday observations from walking down the street to driving a car to passionate sports opinions to database tips. Okay, so maybe database tips isn't an everyday thing, but it's something I'm good at, so I'll post some tips from time to time.

A lot of my observations will probably seem like 'bitching', and they kind of are. However, I'm pretty laid back, so my tone is usually one of amusement. I get amused by the illogical things people do. Maybe you can give me other points of view. I'm always open to them.
